If you live in the southwestern US just take a look out of your window or pick up the local newspaper and see the obvious signs of a region devastated by drought. Even national parks and forests this year are facing complete closure due to drought conditions causing fire dangers.
Now imagine that your main source of food comes from the parched earth of our surrounding desert environment. This is the situation the Tarahumara's face.
During their most recent dance tour in March, the Tarahumara's raised significant funds to help purchase a major food delivery this July and August in anticipation of a possible crisis like this.
Due to their hard work and your generous donations, we have now enough funds to deliver 3 tons of food.
Our goal is to purchase at least 3 more tons of food at this time to provide the additional help needed.
There are planned to be at least one, and possibly two deliveries to five villages in July and August this summer. This will provide food at least until a possible harvest in October 2000.
Any help you can provide in this midyear effort would be greatly appreciated and we will forward thorough documentation of the results of this effort.
