Diving & Snorkeling
For the best diving near town, head south to Los Arcos, a natural preserve with clear water. The best diving is around the gigantic rock archway from which the area derives it's name. To the north of town (50 miles) across the Nayarit state line is Punta Mita, considered one of the area's best diving and surfing spots. You can also head out on dive/snorkel trips to the south of Banderas Bay. Diving is generally not good from most beaches.

Fishing & diving near Los Arcos

Sportfishing
Puerto Vallarta is currently in the process of promoting itself as a world-class sportfishing destination. The summer months are the best for the larger gamefish with catches of black marlin of up to 1,000 lbs. and yellow-fin tuna averaging 300 lbs. You can also expect wahoo, dorado, sailfish & roosterfish. You can expect to catch sailfish and dorado year round. Fishing charters leave from Marina Vallarta or Los Muertos Pier.

Water Sports
Bahia de Banderas is a natural haven for watersports. Since the water is generally quite calm, sailing, windsurfing and parasailing are exceptionally good.

Boat tours leave daily for a variety of cruises ranging from snorkel, sunset cruises and even "booze" cruises. Parasailing, jet skiis, and all sorts of water toys are available from most hotels. You can even enjoy a water park at the Aqua Park in Marina Vallarta.

Golf
Puerto Vallarta has four 18 hole golf courses in the general area. Green fees can run anywhere from $47-$190 USD depending on season and course. More courses are in the plans as Puerto Vallarta is becoming a golfers paradise.

Four Seasons Resort Golf Course

Tennis
No resort in Mexico beats Puerto Vallarta for tennis. Clay courts are common. In addition to the dozens of courts at area resorts, Puerto Vallarta has several fine tennis centers including The John Newcombe, Iguana and Los Tules tennis centers.

Horseback & Mountain Bike Riding
Local horseback riding companies offer private and group excursions into the lush mountains or rides by the hour. Overnight & day bike rides are available, as well as bike rentals.

Guided Tours
Popular city tours are a great way to get acquainted with the area. If you wish to see the surrounding area, guided jungle, ecological and even hot air balloon tours are offered.

Bullfighting
Plaza de Toros has weekly bullfights during the high season every Wednesday at 5pm.
