Oaxaca, which is the capital of the state of the same name, is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, 500 km south of México City. It has a very pleasant climate throughout the year. This city has been nominated a "World Heritage Site" because of its magnificent architecture.
In the area is a large number of archaeological sites, which in their time were very important cities. e.g. Monte Albán, Mitla. They housed civilizations that had a high level of artistic development (such as the Zapotec and Mixtec).
Oaxaca is one of the most indigenous states of México with a large and diverse indigenous population. Even today it is possible to appreciate their beautiful handicrafts, their colorful dress, and to listen to their native languages. All this can be seen and heard in the local markets.
