The owners (and gracious hosts) transformed this once-dilapidated home into a virtual Architectural Digest centerfold. The colors - from the paint on the walls to the flowers in the courtyard - have been orchestrated to evoke just the right mood, and every detail - including the quiet air-con and not-too-soft, not-too-hard beds - has been attended to. What this hotel does not have are any distractions: no phone, no TV, no noise. Healthy breakfasts and organic coffee are served at the poolside patio. The English-speaking owners have invested their money in the right places, going for high quality mattresses, good lighting, quiet air-conditioning units, lots of space, and good bathrooms with strong showers. What they didn’t invest in were TVs, which adds to the serenity of the place. Higher prices are for the seven rooms with air-conditioning, but all units have windows with good screens and get ample ventilation. Breakfast is served in one of the two attractive courtyards. The (12) rooms - all with bathroom & shower - offer exceptional value. Each room is simply furnished, has its own distinct interior design, seductive colour scheme and rounded edges. They have created a peaceful haven from Mérida's bustling streets which is an invitation to relax. The stunning individuality extends to the kidney-shaped mosaic-tiled splash pool. A fountain and garden take centre stage in the front courtyard and the gentle trickle of water will accompany you to your bed. We recommend that you take breakfast beside the pool - a healthy selection of tropical fruits, cereal and juice. Situated on Calle 55, definitely one of the quieter streets in Merida's centro histórico, the location could hardly be better: only two blocks from Plaza Santa Lucia and four from the Plaza Grande - the main square. Without doubt, one of the best small, independent and affordable hotels in Mexico. Highly recommended. |
