BILLFISH:
We have had some really good fishing this past couple of week and the bite is still on. In the
last 20 or so trip we have caught or had on
Blue Marlin, some over 500 lbs. We also had a
nice Black Marlin estimated to be over 500 lbs.
The fish are biting everything as we have
caught them on Lures, Sea Witches with
Ballyhoo and Live Bonito.
|
We are getting about 1 or 2 shot per day at Blue Marlin. Sailfish action has been fast and furious too! Getting about 10 chances per day as the fish are very aggressive. Fish are being caught on Sea Witches with Ballyhoo and some are even taking the Lures. Most of the boats are catching 1 or 2 per day but we have been averaging 2 to 3 per day with one day getting 6 releases. If you ever
wanted almost a 100% chance at a BILLFISH, now is the time to come to Mazatlan.
OTHER SPECIES:
 |
The Yellowfin Tunas are starting to show up
and are in pretty good numbers and nice size
fish with most of them being in the 60 to 100 lb
range. There is only 1 problem, getting them to
bite. They are all around but after you catch 1
or 2 they get very tough to catch. Lots of
sardines in the water that they are feeding on.
Should only get to more and better with these guys though.
|
The Dorado are very spotty. If you get lucky you get one and it could be a nice fish
but not a lot of them around right now. I don’t understand it but we had very few this
year. Maybe because of the lack of rainfall and washout debris. I don’t know? Maybe
they will show up I good numbers later on like a couple of years ago.
We have a great bite on now with the Roosterfish. They are around the rocks near
shore and will bite just about any kind of LIVE bait that you put out but it has to be
live. Catching them slow trolling around the entrances to harbors, rocks and along the
beach. Also, lots of nice snapper in the 2 to 4 lb range with a few Triggerfish mixed
in. Still a few Snook, Jacks and Corvina mixed in with the Snapper and Roosterfish.
| Location |
Anywhere from 20 to 30 miles offshore, also along green/blue water color change is where the Blues were caught!
|
|
Weather Conditions |
Hot with some morning clouds , high around 90°. Water Temps. ranging from 82° to 87°.
|
|
Best Baits |
Live when available! Of course Ballyhoo, dead mullet and marlin
lures. Feathers and Cedar plugs for Tunas and Dorado.
