This huge, old ex-hacienda midway between San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, is situated outside Dolores Hidalgo in a small and safe friendly village. This was Padre Hidalgo's parish, and there is a room in the hacienda where he used to stay when visiting. First established as a presidio, or fort, along the silver trail in 1567, it later became a hacienda in the 1700's.

Having meter-thick adobe walls, Hacienda Las Trancas exhibits a beautiful and rustic elegance. The furnishings consist of colonial antiques and local artisan pieces. It is also private, with 20 full-time staff, including guest service office, cooks, maids, stable personnel, maintenance and gardeners.
