Taxi from Airport to Troncones
There is a small podium on the left as you get out of Customs that says Taxi's. It is run by the government and has set prices. The cars do have AC and are comfortable (for the bumpy road which can be nice). It is the only taxi service from the airport. You pay for the taxi at the podium (currently $45 USD) and take your ticket and go outside. All of the taxi's are right out front and
although it seems a bit confiusing at first, soon one of the taxi drivers
will grab you and you will be off.
Turnoff from Hwy. 200, heading north from Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo
By Bus
Troncones can be reached during the day by taking the local micro-buses or "Chicken " buses out of Zihuatanejo in the direction of La Union or Lazaro Cardenas and letting the driver know you want to get off at Troncones. There will likely be others on the bus with the same destination. The bus will drop you at the turnoff to Troncones Beach. From there you can wait for one of two shuttles that run back and forth or simply start walking and you will more than likely be picked up and given a ride. If you stay after sunset, you will probably need to take a Troncones cab back to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (currently about $18 US*). The easiest way is to take a cab round trip for about $38 US*.
By Car
If you will arrive at the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo International airport and rent a car, follow these directions. We are
located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of the airport. Follow highway 200 north towards Zihuatanejo (stay to the left at the first fork in the highway right out of the airport parking lot). After about 3-4 miles you will go through a bit of Zihuatanejo going up a big hill, at the top of the hill is an exit for Lazaro Cardenas to the right, take it!
Entrance to Troncones Beach
After about 24 Kms or 15 miles you will pass the village of Buena Vista (you have already passed Salitrera and Pantla), there are three speed bumps in the village, continue on after the speed bumps for about 6 kilometers (4 miles). After a church on your left, and some bee hives on your right, begin looking on your right for the Troncones sign. Be very careful when turning off of the highway (left), big semi trucks share the same road and drive really fast!
