Eco Tours in Chiapas

About EcoExperiencias Chiapas- Tour Operator
EcoExperiencias Tour Operators is a company that was created in 1999 as a project aimed to offer ecotourism experiences in the major cities, mainly Southeast Mexico and the Riviera Maya. It started with an idea of satisfying the dreams of travelers through experiences surrounded by nature, mysticism and harmony of the ancient cultures that flourished in our country. The term EcoExperiencias was first adopted by merging our three business units, achieving a range of opportunities for our travelers, friends and partners. Our main focus is on adventure, cultural and indigenous heritage travel. We can offer unforgettable experiences in the north and south of Mexico, specially in Chiapas. Actually we are part of the Adventure Travel Trade Association (A.T.T.A) and the Mexican Association of Tourism and Ecotourism (AMTAVE).

Our People
Chiapas' context has given us the opportunity to interact with different indigenous communities. Some similarities of their lifestyle embedded in the "hach winik" cosmovision are shared among other Mesoamerican ethnic groups. The components of their lifestyle made us rethink the role of our for-profit organization, and evolve into a social enterprise, which now positively impacts the life of more than 300 Lacandones indigenous community who retain depending on the route, between 40% and 45% of the income in the value chain. A crucial element is to understand the duality applied to everything they interact with, in which all permutations of two things have a reciprocal relation (i.e. the feedback loop between human being and nature, collaboration and agreement, etc.).

Collaboration
Collaboration begins by working towards a common goal in order to reach an agreement. The process never ends (it is continuously monitored and updated, across generations), and it is always connected with their sacred values, nature and social elements. A good understanding and internalization of this allowed us to develop a relationship of trust with them. Based on these dualities, we designed the Ecoexperiencias duality framework. This framework can be generalized, as it can be contextualized and applied to many other interventions. It gives the opportunity to be the input of our Global Biodiversity Education platform while interacting with Ecotourism and Community Tourism. It also works as the pathway towards a possible and desirable future, transforming our society's current consumption patterns to more sustainable ways.

So the first positive impact has been to understand the cosmovision of Chiapas ethnic groups in order to build a bridge of trust to work with them in order to collaborate while providing Tours. This bridge was used to develop a Framework that is used in daily operations, but also it has helped us participate in different events as promotors of Indigenous Heritage and of the Governance of Biodiversity. One example is the "End Poverty Challenge" coordinated by Warthon University and the World Bank, which stills running, and we are finalists.

Our Experiences
You can visit Mexico all year around, but in Chiapas the best time is from November to April, when the turquoise color of the water is clear. The locals are fundamental for us. We are supporting the local people as we operate with a lot of indigenous communities in alliance, Those local inhabitants who are in charge of different ecotourism centers, we are helping them to be more sustainable in the community as we offer them training in several areas in order to improve their service and practice eco-friendly ways.

We offer various adventure, cultural and indigenous heritage trips. We sell EXPERIENCES rather than just tours or transportation. We try to combine the nature with the adventure as well as offer unique experience in the local communities. Our interest is make these amazing adventures that Mexico has to offer available to every traveler.
