The Doņa Pitaya art gallery features the intricate beaded designs of the Huichol People of central Mexico who still follow the age-old shamanic ways of their ancestors, an unbroken wisdom-bridge stretching back into the Paleolithic era. The "mara'akame," the shaman, still leads pilgrims on a yearly journey retracing the path of the Gods and Goddesses when they first appeared in this middle world and traveled on sacred pilgrimages to find its center. The work is all hand-made by individual artists who are taught by their elders, and who then pass on the artistic techniques to their children. The pieces of art are the direct reflection from the beliefs of this ancient and very rich culture. Nohemi Inda Velazquez, the charming proprietress of this beautiful gallery, welcomes you to her world and invites you to enjoy the exquisite art on display. Join us Thursday evenings from 5PM-9PM to see a member of the Huichol tribe demonstrate his craft and explain the process used to create his fine works of art. #8 Calle Obregon Historic Art District San Jose del Cabo, BCS Open Monday-Saturday 10AM-2PM and 4PM-8PM Closed Sundays Telephone: (624) 142-6550 or (624) 183-7201 E-mail: donapitaya@hotmail.com |
