Puerto Angel is a small fishing village, bordering a small, sheltered bay on Mexico's sunny Pacific coast. In former times a coffee port, it now survives mainly on fishing and tourism, which so far has hardly affected the traditional lifestyle of the inhabitants. Despite an increasing number of tourists, Puerto Angel has maintained its hospitable nature and enchanting charm as a point of attraction for many individual travelers.

Pochutla, 13 km from Puerto Angel, is a junction for buses in all directions and the arrival point for the short drive by taxi or bus at very reasonable rates to Puerto Angel. Pochutla (13 km away) is the commercial center of this coastal region, where you'll find banks, large supermarkets and a typically Mexican Monday market.

Daily buses are available at Pochutla to and from Oaxaca, Mexico City, San Cristobal de Las Casas, and Acapulco. There are daily flights to and from Oaxaca and Mexico City at Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

In the nearby surroundings of Puerto Angel, you'll find relaxing, sandy beaches bordered with lush palm trees. The village beach is a good place to spend quiet days just relaxing and tanning, or you can arrange interesting trips to the hilly hinterland to view tropical fauna and flora.

Those who would like to experience the larger international-style beach resorts for a day can take side-trips to Puerto Escondido (75 km) or Huatulco (45 km), before returning to the idyllic setting of Puerto Angel in the evening.

The Playa del Panteon, ideal for scuba-diving with friends, is easily accessible from Puerto Angel.

The beach of Estacauite with its three small bays is approx. 2 km away from the local center. With its gentle waves and abundant aquatic life featuring giant sea turtles and manta rays, it is ideal for scuba diving.

Zipolite, 4 km away (bus or collective taxi)
An ideal spot for surfing, or you can just lay back and enjoy its famous grandiose sunrises and sunsets. It is also a great meeting place for young people with beachside discotheques in which to dance the night away before heading home to our guesthouse for breakfast.

San Augustinillo, 6 km away.
Another long sandy beach, ideal for just relaxing and daydreaming, or going for a leisurely swim in the warm Pacific waters.

Mazunte, 8 km away.
Attractions here include the turtle museum, center del Tortuga, and the clean white-sand beach. It's a great place to swim. The "Center de tortuga" in Mazunte. Many kinds of turtles from here are threatened with extinction and are under protection. Unfortunately, the valuable eggs are still smuggled to satisfy gourmet palates.

Ventanilla, 13 km away.
Don't miss the opportunity to take an inexpensive guided canoe trip through the area's pristine lagoon to observe tropical flora and fauna. Ask our friendly staff where you can arrange it. You aren't really afraid of crocodiles, are you?
