Puerto Escondido ("Hidden Port" in Spanish) is in the state of Oaxaca, on the southern pacific coast of Mexico. Of course there's the famous beaches, but also lush, scenic jungles. There are two categories of really great vacations: those with snow, and those with horses on the beach. This one has horses on the beach.

For the archeological minded, there's plenty to explore, and so much natural and primitive beauty all around you. Puerto Escondido is one of the best surfing areas in the world. International competitions are held at Zicatela Beach, known as the Mexican Pipeline. Besides Zicatela, there are other, less demanding breaks suitable to surfers of any skill level.
