Cafe Cafe, located on 1st Street in Ensenada (Calle Primera), opened its doors on October 2nd 1993, as a hip coffee bar, and curio shop. On the first floor you'll find a full service coffee bar, plus a very impressive curio shop of arts and crafts from various parts of Mexico. For the last two years, Cafe Cafe has been the sole distributor of the finest original local and national folk art specializing in Tzotzil (Chiapas) and Huichol (Nayarit) back-lit candleholders, and recently beautiful yarn crafted impressions of the Huichol Indians.
Ramirez and his wife Lorena Muro opened Cafe Cafe as the only place in Ensenada with an appreciation for edgy, underground art. "We had poetry, avant-garde movies, punk rock. We even had 17 musicians from the cruise boat play in here once."
Today the cafe has expanded to include a second floor jazz bar that has seen the likes of players from Sublime and other headliner musicians and bands. Live jazz and instrumental performances can be found on most Friday and Saturday evenings. Beer and wine is also now served at Cafe Cafe. True to its name, Cafe Cafe serves the best designer cafe mochas inspired by the legendary chocolates from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Cafe de Olla, the most traditional of Mexico's coffee is brewed with our secret recipe that has been made famous throughout the California's by its numerous fans. Our sinful cake "El Pecado", which translates to "sin", includes lustful ingredients such as German chocolate, flan (custard), and a special golden brown sweet topping. This Cafe Cafe signature cake brings people from as far as Seattle in the hopes of getting to Cafe Cafe before the last slice of "sinful" cake is served to one of its many faithful sweet-tooth partakers. OK, just remember to ask for a piece of cake when you visit us. We'll know which one you're talking about.
