Rosarito To Ensenada Bike Ride, Fall 2004

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - downhill 2
The long downhill sections were welcomed by everyone, and if you wanted be a little daring you could get up some good speed for a quick thrill. Luckily this inland part of the ride was closed off to car traffic.

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - towards Ensenada
After a few more miles the Free Road once again joined up with the Toll Road along the coast, which meant we now had to share the road with car traffic. But one lane was bicycles only, so that was no problem, and most of the cars were there cheering on the cyclists. Hey, the cheerleaders are back.

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - finish line
Ahhh the finish line at last. With one final cheer from the crowd I make my way across the line to capture the Yellow Jersey! Oh wait, wrong race. But it did feel great to complete the ride with no problems at all. I felt ready to party.

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - party relax
Now this is what it's all about - sitting down with your ridding buddies, putting your feet up and enjoying the whole scene. There were booths for food, drinks, and tables to sit at in the large open plaza with live music set up just for the event.

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - the band
The live music added a very festive air to the event, the perfect topping to an outstanding ride. Hats off to the organizers for putting on this very successful ride, that was organized very well. And a special thanks to the communities from Rosarito to Ensenada, who came out in full force to cheer on the riders for almost the entire way. That made a big difference, and made you feel like you were riding a small version of the Tour de France. I had a great time and would recommend it as a family friendly outting for anyone who likes to ride bikes and meet new fit and fun people.

Rosarito to Ensenada Bike Ride - loading crew
That's my story, the brake pad worked well for the entire ride, downhills included. I chose to attend the ride with Outback Adventures, which provided carefree same-day, round trip transportation for riders and their bikes from San Diego, plus a private after ride party with food and drink next to the official festival.

Oh, and here is a picture of me ... well part of me. Funny thing happens when you try to ride your bike, take photos with a digital camera and not crash, all at the same time. Because of the shutter delay, I have dozens of nice photos of my tire, the road, my knee and the sky. But that's the beauty of digital, you can just delete what you don't like. Hope you enjoyed the story, Rolf Metzger.
